WISH Women’s Independent Sober Housing

WISH is independent sober housing, where 16 women sustain their long-term recovery in a supportive, safe, and sober. Members must be free of substance use for a minimum of 1 year, and contract to abstain from all substance use and other addictive behaviors, attend appropriate AA/NA meetings, participate in house meetings, consent to the house rules and fully participate in all additional aspects of recovery. To ensure a successful transition to independent living, clients are required to work and pay for rent. Case management and the peer-mentorship are the cornerstones of the residences, building upon positive relationships amongst residents to assist each other with relapse prevention skills, effectively manage daily life stressors, coordination with community supports and empower them on their own recovery journey. WISH has a House Manager, who lives on site in a separate apartment, and is responsible for ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

WISH offers single and double room occupancy (depending on availability) rooms, a shared kitchen, living rooms, laundry, shared cable, yoga room, community meeting room, outdoor recreational area, and pool. Residents share the responsibilities associated with cleaning the facility.

Located in near downtown Newburyport, WISH is within walking distance to numerous stores, gyms, library, banks, restaurants, hospital, churches, parks, and easily accessible to beaches. The residence is located on a bus route which connects to the train station and bus stations.

WISH is not funded by DPH, HUD, nor affiliated with Section 8 housing, however rent and services is typically capped at a level below 30% of total median income for a one-person family residing in Essex County.
